What is the Greater Manchester FASD Network?

The Greater Manchester FASD Network was founded in 2019 and exists to provide a link across Greater Manchester for parents, carers, professionals, community, and voluntary organisations to facilitate information sharing and communication on how to promote better outcomes for individuals with FASD and prevent alcohol exposed pregnancies.

Network objectives:

Raise awareness about the risks of alcohol-exposed pregnancies and the importance of FASD diagnosis and support amongst professionals, voluntary and community organisations in Greater Manchester.
Gather views of individuals with lived experience and use this to improve services and practice.
Enable better support for families with FASD and providing information for communities about the risks of alcohol use during pregnancy in a non-judgemental and supportive way.
Support those with lived experience to be able to work in coproduction with their local area and remain an integral part of the Greater Manchester FASD network.
Facilitate meaningful co-production efforts to reduce alcohol-exposed pregnancies across Greater Manchester and to improve support for individuals with FASD.
Foster collaboration and partnership among stakeholders in Greater Manchester.
Create a space to share best practice around FASD and prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies.
Share resources across Greater Manchester that support the prevention of alcohol-exposed pregnancies.
Co-ordinate a GM wide awareness day response.
Support community groups and voluntary organisations to mark FASD awareness month in September by delivering events and awareness-raising initiatives.
Support the response in Greater Manchester to the NICE Quality Standard on FASD.

National FASD manage and develop The Greater Manchester FASD Network under contract funded by the NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board (ICB).

The work until September 2026 will include:

5 x webinars for families and professionals
4 x online Q&A networking sessions
3 x virtual coffee mornings
Living FASD series 3 subscriptions available to GM families, family hubs and professionals
New resources for families
Awareness month social media campaign
Short course E-course made available for pharmacists and sexual health practitioners
Post-diagnostic support signposting briefing for paediatricians
Future development of the network and funding
